Preparing For Pesach
The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education
and the Florence Melton Adult Mini-
School of Detroit are offering a week-
end retreat, Preparing for Pesach:
History, Haggadah, Halachah. For
adults only, it will take place at the
Butzel Conference Center in Ortonville
from Friday to Sunday, March 16-18.
Beginning with Kabbalat Shabbat
services on Friday evening and end-
ing on Sunday morning, the entire
weekend will be devoted to the study of
texts, classical and contemporary, that
relate to the celebration of Pesach.
Scholars-in-residence will be Dr.
Mitch Parker and Rabbi Michael
Balinsky. Parker is a community educa-
tor and an instructor for the Florence
Melton Adult Mini-School of Metro
Detroit. Balinsky, from Chicago, is the
director of faculty development for the
Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.
The cost of the weekend is $229 per
person, based on double occupancy.

Winter Break Camp
Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe—
FREE will offer a two-day camp for
children during February school break.
The camp will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 19, and Wednesday, Feb.
21, at the Sara Tugman Bais Chabad
Torah Center in West Bloomfield.
Activities will include a robotics pro-
gram and a bridge-building workshop.
A kosher lunch and snacks are
included. The fee is $45 for one day and
$80 for both days. A 10 percent dis-
count is offered for early registration.

Community Women
"Spa for the Body and Soul" will be
held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at
the Four Points Sheraton, Ann Arbor.
The event is sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Washtenaw County
in partnership with Hadassah, ORT,
Temple Beth Emeth Sisterhood, Beth
Israel Congregation Women's League,
Chabad of Ann Arbor and Jewish
Family Services of Ann Arbor. Event
chair is Shternie Zwiebel.
It will begin with breakfast and
health and beauty expo and will be fol-
lowed by a choice of nine sessions led
by local experts.
Among the sessions will be
dance and martial arts-inspired Nia
Technique with Robin Okun, Esther
Goldstein's "Finding the Feminine:
Spirituality in Judaism , ) ' "Healthier
Mothering in an Age of Anxiety" with
Ruth Moscow-Cohen and "Bubbi, Savta,
Grandma" led by Happy Feigelson.
Participants can choose two ses-
sions. Guest speaker will be Yocheved
Polonsky, executive director of
the Creative Learning Institute in
Cleveland, Ohio.

Applications are now being accepted
from college students for Farmington
Hills-based Adat Shalom Synagogue's
Harry and Sarah Laker Memorial
Scholarship for Study in Israel.
Deadline is May 11.
A $3,500 cash award will be given
to the winning student. The winner
must have been accepted for a year of
university study in Israel and must be
a resident of the Metropolitan Detroit
area currently attending a college or
university in the United States.
