Built in 1840 with a majestic mansard (double-sloped) roof, the inn was recently renovated
by current owners Paul and Heather Crandall to include luxurious amenities like fireplaces,
European featherbeds, sumptuous linens and, upon request, roses, chocolates and strawber-
ries and in-room massages. The inn offers 10 guest rooms (left), among them a presidential
suite with merlot- and gold-toned walls and Venetian plaster surrounding a four-post
canopied king-size bed, a sitting room/library featuring Henry Ford's desk from Fairlane
Manor, an all-granite bath and panoramic views of the wedding garden below, recently cre-
ated to complement a spectacular indoor wedding chapel.
Other suites brim with hand-carved mahogany beds, double doors embellished with
leaded glass, antique sofas, arched windows, sloped ceilings and more. "People like to come
here to get away from their routines and their phone," says Heather Crandall.
If couples want to venture out, nearby Meadow Brook Theatre awaits, as does charm-
ing downtown Rochester and its many fine restaurants. Expect hearty breakfasts at the inn
— if you're lucky, the couple will serve their popular banana-bourbon French toast.
