'TIS THE SEASON to coax your love life out of hibernation. The best way to do it? A romantic getaway — whether

for a weekend or simply overnight. And there are plenty of cozy little hideaways where you can whisk your love

away for a rendezvous that's close to home. Here, we reveal four of our favorite romantic inns and resorts, offering

everything from a gourmet dinner in the woods to an in-room couple's massage — all right here in Michigan.

The name "Zhivago \ight" may bring to minc the BoisneviK Revolution, but the
thought won't remain for long once you arrive at the Garland ResoT (above).

Spread across 3,000 acres of golf-course terrain, forests, lakes and streams,
usually blanketed in snow, the Garland Resort takes frill advantage of its
winter wonderland: The resort created a package called "Zhivago Night" to
evoke the romantic mood of the novel and film Dr. Zhivago — in which
snow-capped Russian winter scenes, beautiful music, horses in the snow and
lustful moments intertwine. The evening begins with a horse-drawn sleigh
ride to Garland's Bridge Inn (below), where a blazing fire warms guests as
they indulge in a five-course meal with wine amid a rustic log-style setting.

The package includes dinner, one night's stay at the inn and cross-country
ski rental and trail passes.

While there, both couples and families can enjoy ice skating, sledding
and the Gourmet Glide, a ski-and-feast event that invites guests to enjoy
10 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and five along-the-route
food stations.

Garland Resort, Lewiston. (877) 4-GARLAND; garlandusa.corn. The
resort is about a 3 1/2-hour drive from Metro Detroit.
