has been promoted to associate vice
president, financial adviser in the
global wealth management group in
the Livonia office of Morgan Stanley.

Don Tanner and Matt Friedman,
both of West Bloomfield, are part-
ners in Tanner Friedman, a new
strategic communications agency in
Farmington Hills.

Karen Kushkin of West Bloomfield
has joined Miller Canfield Paddock
& Stone PLC as an associate in the
financial institutions and transactions
group in the law firm's Detroit office.

Dr. Irvin Kappy of
Orchard Lake, a 20-
year pediatrician at
Detroit-based Henry
Ford Health System,
was named service
chief of pediatrics at
Kappy

Bloomfield Hospital. He will oversee
pediatric inpatient and outpatient
services.

Former Detroiter Rhoda Weiss is
chair and chief executive officer of the

Aaron S. Beals

was appointed vice

Dr. Louis Warshaw
of Waterford was
presented with the
American Academy
of Optometry's 2006
Eminent Service
Award at its annual
Warshaw
meeting in Denver,
Colo. He had been director of clinics
at the Michigan College of Optometry
and chief of the eye clinic at the
Veterans Administration Medical
Center in Saginaw. He is a consul-
tant to the Michigan Department of
Community Health.

Jeffrey Nolish of Huntington
Woods, on a team from
AmeriCorps*NCCC, has begun serv-
ing with the Georgia Department of
Natural Resources at Yago State Park
to preserve and restore area habitat.
He received wild land firefighter
training and will facilitate controlled
burns throughout Georgia's state
parks.

Nancy E. Gordon, daughter of
Marilynn and Seymour Gordon of
Franklin, has been elected a judge of
the 14th Judicial District in Durham,
N.C. She is on the boards of Judea
Reform Congregation and Women in
Action.

Foundation for
Jewish Campus Life
honored MSU Hillel
Executive Director
Cindy Hughey
as a Richard M.
Hughey
Joel Exemplar
of Excellence for
outstanding work as a Hillel profes-
sional. Hughey was one of eight pro-
fessionals who received the award at
the Hillel International Professional
Staff Conference in Baltimore in
December. Hughey is credited with
improving relations between Hillel
and Michigan State University and
the federation community. Under
her direction, MSU Hillel success-
fully completed a capital campaign
for its new facility and more student
programs.
