The Adat Shalom Synagogue
Sisterhood in Farmington Hills
will host "Connections" at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 3.
It will feature a choice of five
lectures, plus wine tasting, hors
d'oeuvres, a coffee bar, a dessert
buffet and music by Dan Shere.
Participants can hear presenta-
tions by: Dennis Blender on "The
Seven Habits of Highly Effective
Families"; Dietician Julie Feldman
on "Creative Ways to Cope with
Common Eating Problems and
Children's Nutritional Needs"; CPA
Myles Hoffert on "How to Negotiate
Tax Laws and Reduce Property
Tax"; Genealogist Marc Manson
on "Resources for the Jewish
Genealogist and Researching Your
Jewish Roots"; CPA and corn-
puter specialist Gary Miller on
"Computer Safety and Blogging."
Chairperson is Cindy Babcock.
Working with her are Ronna
Hoffert, Beryl Levin, Lynn Keidan-
Segel, Rita Sitron, Sherri Morof,
Shelly Soble and Lillian Schostak.

New Torah Scroll
Congregation T'chiyah will cel-
ebrate a gift of a new Torah scroll
on Sunday, Feb. 4. This is the first
new Torah for the 30-year-old con-
gregation.
Guest Rabbi Levi Kagan, a certi-
fied sofer (scribe), will officially
complete the last few letters of the
Torah at the celebration. He will
also talk briefly about the role of
the sofer in Judaism.
The program begins at 2 p.m.
at Congregation T'chiyah, in the
Mondry Building, 15000 W. 10 Mile
Road, Oak Park. Light refreshments
will be served.
The Torah will be read for the
first time at T'chiyah's Shabbat
morning service 10 a.m. Feb. 17.
Services led by Jane and Rick
Miller. It will include musical inter-
pretations of the Shabbat liturgy by
guest musicians Henry and Susan
Shevitz.
Congregation T'chiyah holds
weekly Shabbat and holiday ser-
vices. It is affiliated with the Jewish
Reconstructionist Federation. For a
