What Would You Give
to Make the World a
Better Place?

It's simple to do and begins by answering our call
during Federation's Super Sunday phone-a-thon on
Sunday, January 21, 2007. Think of Super Sunday as
our community safety net. On that day we connect,
person-to-person, to raise life-supporting funds for
19 local agencies that serve the most urgent needs of
families at risk in our community. Every dollar counts.
Every gift has the power to answer a prayer, open a
door, do a world of good. So please do what you can.

were taken out of oppression
and taken into freedom. And it was
the State of Israel that did that."
Bishop Butler presented a
$25,000 check from his church to
Susie Pappas, representing the
Jewish Federation. Those funds
and those received from a collec-
tion that night are earmarked for
the Kiryat Yam Absorption Center
near Haifa that Butler has visited.
"This gift will make a meaning-
ful difference to the hundreds of
Ethiopian immigrants who are
coming each month:' Pappas said.
"We look forward to strengthening
our alliance, now and forever."

Common Bonds
Robert Lewis Young Jr., who was
raised around Jewish families,
attended at a friend's invitation.
"Not only Israel, but the U.S., too,
is in jeopardy [from Iran] and we
need to unite to defeat this com-
mon enemy:' he said.
"I believe that biblical prophecy
is being fulfilled every day:' said
Toni Flowers, a Christian minister
and missionary from Farmington
Hills. "It is incumbent upon us to
follow the Scriptures that tells us to
pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
"As much as we are different, we
are much more alike," Flowers said.
"And it is important for us to build
bridges of understanding between
our two faiths and between (blacks
and whites)."
Dr. Murray Baruch of West
Bloomfield "was taken by the
tremendous amount of support
from the community. Every Jewish
person I spoke with had the same
feeling. It was very encouraging
and meaningful."
Dr. Michael Ginsburg of
Southfield has attended other
Christian Zionist gatherings and
is not concerned about prosely-
tizing efforts or hidden agendas.
"Maybe 10 years ago that [concern]
may have been credible, but not
any more Dr. Ginsburg says. "We
shouldn't be afraid of the evangeli-
cals because they are true friends.
"It is utterly incredible that
Christians are turning towards
Jews to find their place in the spiri-
tual world. They are realizing that
Jews have a special relationship
with God. They are so apprecia-
tive of Israel, and understand that
Israel is America's only true ally in
the Middle East."
