The Right Emphasis
Where are the Jewish community's
priorities? Why are we so obsessed
with relations with the Arab
American community ("A Baby
Step',' Dec. 21, page 13)?
Why are we not obsessed with
educating our youth to be proud
of their Jewish heritage and secure
in who they are, at the same time
knowing the true facts of the conflict
between the Palestinian Arabs and
the Israelis?
Why is the Jewish community here
not proactive in support of Israel?
When Lebanese Christian Zionist
Brigitte Gabriel was here a short time
ago, she specifically asked this ques-
tion.
So where are we? I do not include
in this question StandWithUs-
Michigan and the Zionist
Organization of America.
Instead of focusing on "relations"
with the Arab American commu-
nity, let's focus on ourselves. Put the
emphasis where it belongs: on Jewish
education and active support for
Israel.

Kidnapped, Not Captured
I noted a letter to the editor that used
the terminology "captured" referring
to the three Israeli soldiers in Arab
hands ("What's In A Name Dec. 28,
page 6). This should, instead, read
"kidnapped" regarding the three
Israelis.
I am sure it is an innocent error
that seems to be made by a number
of authors and journalists, including
Jimmy Carter — from him, not so
innocent by any stretch. CNN, I noted,
did use the correct terminology.
Obviously, any citizen of a coun-
try who is taken by invasion of his
country is being "kidnapped:' I guess
sometimes one word can carry a lot
of meaning.
