Prior to retirement in 1980, he was a professor at the College of Education at Wayne State University. He was also a founding member of Temple Shir Shalom and co-founder of Better Education Through Simplified spelling. Mr. Citron was a commu- nity leader and activist to improve interracial relations and interfaith dialogue and marched with Martin Luther King Jr. He is survived by his wife, Shirlee Citron; daughter and son- in-law, Miriam and Elton Cairns of California; son, Jonathan Citron of Arizona; grandchildren, Benjamin Grass, Joshua and Anne Grass; great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Grass. Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel. DR. LEONARD H. LERNER, 81, of West Bloomfield, died Dec. 18, 2006. He was an ophthal- mologist with offic- es in Southfield and West Bloomfield. He Lerner was also a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and a graduate of Marquette University Medical School. He completed his residency at Receiving Hospital-Kresge Eye Institute and was on the staff at Sinai from 1953. Dr. Lerner continued to practice until June 2006. He was a major intellect who loved music and archaeology. Dr. Lerner is survived by his wife, Lorraine Lerner; daughters and son- in-law, Adina Lerner of California, Rachel and Stuart Rosenberg of Illinois; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Dr. Sandra Lerner of Huntington Woods; grandchil- dren, Allegra and Theo Rosenberg, Arianna and Benjamin Lerner. He was the dear brother of the late Max Lerner and the late Lillian Winkler. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
