Chanukah Oil
Tamar Hadar and Judy Goldsmith, both of Huntington Woods, enjoy
a Dec. 6 Chanukah event of the Jewish Women's Circle of Huntington
Woods. Goldsmith is working to fill a decorative bottle with vegetables,
herbal oil and vinegar. Hadar led a discussion on Chanukah and the mes-
sage of the oil at the program held in a Huntington Woods home.

Sing-Along Crew
On Dec. 17, Venturing Crew 18, chartered to the Michigan Jewish Scouting
Group of West Bloomfield, participated in the Farmington Hills Adat
Shalom Synagogue Men's Club Annual Chanukah Sing-Along. Crew
members visited residents in nursing homes and joined Men's Club
members in leading the residents in a sing-along. Above, Crew member
Joe Juszak, an Eagle Scout, hangs out with Hartland Manor resident Abe
Friedman and with Donald Davis, crew commissioner, event organizer
and Eagle Scout. Crew members attend the Frankel Jewish Academy, West
Bloomfield, and Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills.

88, of West
Bloomfield, died
Dec. 20, 2006. She was a
caring, friendly, longtime
active member of the
Jewish community and
the community at large.
Mrs. Malin was a mem-
ber of Temple Beth El for
over 55 years. During her Malin
membership, she served
as a president and as an officer of
many groups and committees, includ-
ing becoming a charter member and
vice president of the Young Married
Group, which then became the Married
Group and is now called Family Circle.
A life member and officer of Beth El's
Sisterhood, she was a past president
of the Middle Years Group and of the
Beth Elders.
She and her husband, fizzy, were the
Lamed Viv Honorees at the annual
Reform Judaism Dinner in 1990. Both
were very involved with many inter-
faith groups for over 50 years. Many of
these groups involved building bridges
among various religious, ethnic and
cultural groups such as the Greater
Round Table of Christians and Jews,
the American Arab and Jewish Friends,
the Ecumenical Institute and other
social action organizations. Along with
her husband, she was involved from
the inception of the American Arab
and Jewish Friends.
She held various offices and was a
lifetime member of B'nai B'rith with
the Brandeis Chapter. In 2003, she
was honored by PIME Ministries for her
work in interfaith relationships, receiv-

SHIRLEY FINN
ABELMAN, 92, for-
mer Detroiter of East
Lansing, died Dec. 25.
She was a member of
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in East Lansing
and Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield as well as
being a life member of
Hadassah Women's Organization. She spent
her life contributing to the causes of those
less fortunate. She was a proud graduate of
Oakland University in Rochester at age 65.
Mrs. Abelman is survived by her
beloved sister, Sylvia (David) Weisberg of
Boynton Beach, Fla.; beloved brother, Harry
Levenburg of Iron Mountain; daughter, Stel
Finn Litwack of Oakton, Va.; son, Bernie
(Jane) Finn of East Lansing; grandchildren,
David (Heidi) Finn of New Jersey, Julie
Finn (Rob) Byers of Norfolk, Va., Jenn Finn

along with her husband, she
was active with the USO.
She also volunteered for
over 30 years at Providence
Hospital, during the
Christmas and the Easter
seasons, in order to give the
staff a chance to be with
their families.
A devoted mother, she
was active with the Girl Scouts and
PTA. She also served as a volunteer of
the March of Dimes for many years.
She is survived by daughters and
sons-in-law, Beverly and William
Levy of Delray Beach, Fla., Linda and
Joseph Hebert of Farmington Hills,
Elaine and Mark Schonberger of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Kevin Levy
and Lourdes Abella Levy, Lt. Jason
Levy and Alison Stamper Levy, David
and Michelle Hebert, Anthony and
Hope Hebert, Michael Schonberger
and Keith Schonberger; great-grand-
children, Isaiah, Shoshana and Carolina
Levy.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Isadore "Izzy" Malin; the dear mother
of the late Carol Jane Malin; the cher-
ished daughter of the late Benjamin
and the late Katie Hartman; loving sis-
ter of the late Jacob David Hartman.
Interment was at Beth El Memorial
Park Cemetery. Contributions may
be made to Temple Beth El, Isadore
and Frances Malin Memorial Interfaith
Fund, 7400 Telegraph Bloomfield

Jennie Levenburg; wife of the late Jack H.
Finn and the late Hyman Abelman; mother
of the late Allen E. Finn and the late Melvin
H. Finn; sister of the late Rose Sacks; grand-
mother of the late Tonya Barnett.
Services at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in East Lansing. Interment at Beth El
Memorial Park in Livonia. Contributions
