Pedaling For Israel
Avid cyclists interested in testing
their gears along the Israeli coun-
tryside while pedaling for a good
cause are invited to the West
Bloomfield home of Dany Saar.
Hazon will hold the 2007
Arava Institute & Hazon Israel
Ride May 1-8. In partnership
with the Arava Institute for
Environmental Studies, the 300-
mile, five-day, inclusive and fully
supported Israel Ride takes rid-
ers from Jerusalem to Eilat.
An information session is
scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday,
Jan. 11, at the Saar home. There
will be a free spinning class and
Israeli refreshments. Saar and
Cheryl Cook, both ride alumni,
will lead the discussion. Cook,
from Farmington Hills and now
of Kibbutz Ketura, is Israel Ride
chief operating officer.
Riders — including
Palestinian, Jordanian and Israeli
students at Arava — will see
Israeli environmental issues first-
hand and foster environmental
cooperation in the Middle East.
Ride proceeds sup-
port the Arava Institute for
Environmental Studies, a profes-
sional leadership program for
Middle East environmental lead-
ers, and Hazon's Community-
Supported Agriculture (CSA) ini-
tiative ,Tuv Ha'Aretz, an Adamah
fellowship training Jewish organ-
ic farmers and activists.
Riders pay a registration fee
to cover expenses and com-
mit to raise $3,600 to support
Jewish environmental education,
programming and advocacy.
Students and family members of
riders must raise a minimum of
$3,000 to ride.

tions, contact Dany Saar at

mation and registration is
