eah Oldenburg has been an artist for nine of her 11 years.
According to her mother, Melinda Nagler, Leah began draw-
ing at the age of 2 and won an art contest at Ealy Elementary
School in West Bloomfield at age 5.
Now, at age 11, art is one of her elective classes at Orchard Lake
Middle School. She often draws during her free time at school and
almost daily at home. "We have a big art center in the house," says
Leah's mom.
And, according to the young artist,"1 want to be an art teacher so I
•
can teach others."
Leah draws almost any subject, but seems attracted to cartoon art
these days.
She often begins her art projects with a regular pencil, then fills in
her drawing with colored pencil. But, because of the Jewish News/
Farmer Jack contest rules (light colors do not scan or photograph
well), she used permanent markers to color in her drawing of a family
