How rich that your trash story on GM
was published on the anniversary of
Pearl Harbor ("Hitler's Carmaker:' Dec.
7, page 15).
Will next week's issue detail what
Mercedes, BMW and Volkswagen did
to Jews in Germany during this peri-
od? What about the role of Japanese
car companies and their aid for the
Japanese war effort, which killed tens
of thousands of Americans.
Six pages on GM's supposed sup-
port of Hitler because its subsidiary
was German and taken over by Hitler
during World War II. We Jews should
be thankful for GM's efforts during
this war, which enabled our country to
triumph.
As citizens of Detroit, you should be
ashamed of yourselves for rehashing
and publishing such drivel.

WSU Grad Opposes Said
As a graduate of Wayne State
University (1962, School of
Education), I was appalled to learn
that it is considering hiring Professor
Wadie Said for the Wayne Law School
faculty in Detroit.
Said is the son of the late Edward
Said, the controversial Columbia
University professor whose anti-Israel
revisionist tracts and hateful anti-
Israel "Orientalist" libels were racist.
Wadie Said is also racist in his demon-
ization of Israel and intends to use his
position to promulgate his spurious
anti-Israel "academics:' A close exami-
nation of his record shows that he
bends facts to conclusions, which are
consistent with his anti-Semitic, anti-
Israel bias.
Having read Daniel Pipes' column
on Said ("Redeeming The Wayward
University:' Dec. 7, page 34) and the
IN articles about anti-Israel senti-
ment at Wayne, and having heard a
Wayne Law student make a heartfelt

Said Wrong For Law School
I appreciate your airing of the con-
cerns of many in the community
regarding the possible hiring of Wadie
Said as a law professor at Wayne
State University ("Reject Wadie Said
at WSU:' Nov. 30, page 9, and the
Daniel Pipes column "Redeeming
the Wayward University" Dec. 7, page
34). Mr. Said's ascendancy to a teach-
ing position at the law school would
further poison an already conten-
tious academic setting for Jewish and
Zionist students.
Mr. Said is the son of former
Columbia University Professor Edward
Said, whom many of your readers
will remember as a frequent televi-
sion news guest during the 1980s,
constantly spewing invective against
Israel when she endeavored to defend
herself. The younger Mr. Said has
spoken at events sponsored by Al
Awda, an organization advocating the
Palestinian "right of return" — the
belief that Palestinians have a claim to
pre-1967 Israel. Consistent with that
view, he supports a "one-state" solu-
tion to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,
i.e., the destruction of the State of
Israel.

appeal to our community to become
informed and get involved, I contacted
the university and urge others to do
so as well. The student told the audi-
ence that Jewish students feel that
their Jewish identity is under assault
at Wayne and how hiring Wadie Said
will aggravate anti-Israel hostilities
on campus and in the wider Detroit
area. No other minority group would
tolerate such a professor at a publicly
supported university.
