ROUND TOWN
Leadership Building
Federation young leaders mark
5th-year reunion.
S
ometimes, taking a journey halfway around the world can help you find the
deeper meaning in your own life. That's what happened to Michael Morse
of Huntington Woods and dozens of other young professionals who've partici-
pated in the Grosfeld Leadership Program.
For the past five years, the invitation-only program sponsored by Jim and Nancy
Grosfeld of Bloomfield Hills has taken groups of young adults
to Poland, Israel and the former Soviet Union to see how money
raised by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit is help-
ing people overseas.
Morse was unaffiliated and relatively uninvolved with the
Jewish community when he went on the trip this past year; he
returned so inspired, he's now an active participant and a major
contributor to Federation's Annual Campaign.
"I saw where Federation dollars go and became overwhelmed,"
Morse said.
"There's an old expression, `Sometimes the heart can't feel
what the eyes can't see," said Nancy Grosfeld. "We created this
program with the hope that through seeing and experiencing
what Federation is all about and seeing the faces of people whose lives we touch, we
could develop a cadre of young adults who feel a passion for our mission and have the
potential to become future leaders."
More than 70 Grosfeld participants, from all five trips, came together on Nov. 4 at
Franklin Hills Country Club for a reunion and fifth anniversary celebration. The evening
included dinner, drinks, testimonials and the chance to honor and thank the Grosfelds
for their continued support. The next Grosfeld mission to Poland and Israel is set for
May 2007.
"The Grosfelds are extremely generous benefactors and Federation has also put its
best resources towards this program," said Scott Kaufman of Huntington Woods.
He has participated in every Grosfeld mission as a group leader and adviser. "It's so
effective as a Jewish identity builder. What I like is seeing the new people each time —
you can almost see a light go on at different times during the trip with different people.
To see that is very energizing!'
Spotted in the crowd at the Grosfeld celebration were: Nicole and Matt Lester,
Emily and Jeff Camiener, and Lisa and Mark Menuck, all of Birmingham; Renee
and Craig Erlich of Bloomfield Hills; Rachel and Jason Zimmerman, and Jodi
and Jeffrey Michaelson of Huntington Woods; Kim and Bob Broner and Jennifer
and Brian Siegel, all of West Bloomfield. Ei
