According to her mother, Melinda Nagler, Leah began draw- ing at the age of 2 and won an art contest at Ealy Elementary School in West Bloomfield at age 5. Now, at age 11, art is one of her elective classes at Orchard Lake Middle School. She often draws during her free time at school and almost daily at home. "We have a big art center in the house," says Leah's mom. And, according to the young artist,"1 want to be an art teacher so I • can teach others." Leah draws almost any subject, but seems attracted to cartoon art these days. She often begins her art projects with a regular pencil, then fills in her drawing with colored pencil. But, because of the Jewish News/ Farmer Jack contest rules (light colors do not scan or photograph well), she used permanent markers to color in her drawing of a family lighting b- ,_,. the chatiukiah. Leah Oldenburg's winning entry won her a $100 check. Age- Temple Israel group winners Gabrielle Zacks, Yossi Silverstein and Eitan Shere each will receive $18. For those who wish to retrieve their contest entries, they are available at the Jewish News office through Jan. 5.
