Our Needy Earth
God is said to have chuckled at his
joke on the people he put on the
planet by giving them all different
languages so they would be unable
to understand one another.
Millions continue to be killed
by genocide. Is providing relief to
the oppressed all we are able to do?
And how does Western civiliza-
tion prevent the small minority
of Muslim extremists, incited by
their radical clergy, from dragging
the world back a couple thousand
years? Isn't Earth large enough for
more than one religion?
When will we stop polluting our
environment instead of waiting for
someone else to do it? And now
that our majority political party is
winning elections, will our govern-
ment represent the ideals of all
Americans and learn to understand
different cultures of the world?
Lastly, when will the strongest
and richest country assure basic
food, shelter, clothing, health care
and education to every one of its
citizens?
As we elders become observers
and leave these challenges to the
young (under 80), I hope you will
charge up your batteries for the
coming year and have at it. Our
old Earth will continue to bumble
along, but can surely use your help.

• The story which mentioned
the showing of the documentary
film Obsession: Radical Islam's
War Against the West Nov. 15 at
Temple Israel ("Eye On Palestinian
Media," Nov. 23, page 10) should
have stated that an anonymous
Temple Israel member in West
Bloomfield made a contribution
to StandWithUs-Michigan to send
DVDs of the film to Michigan news
media outlets, not to state legisla-
tors.
