High School junior. He's an outside
midfielder for the Groves boys' soc-
cer team, and a key member of the
school's boys' tennis squad.
The Falcons finished second to
Okemos in the last two Division 2 state
boys' tennis tournaments. Kazdan lost
in the semifinals in both tourneys,
playing No. 4 doubles in 2005 and No.
4 singles in 2006.
Groves boys' soccer coach Barry
Brodsky said Kazdan's state tennis
tournament experience makes him
a better soccer player. Kazdan saw
action off the bench in 20 of Groves'
24 games this fall. Because of the loss
of nine senior starters, Kazdan has an
opportunity to move into the starting
lineup next season.
Junior outside midfielder Alec
Cohen, one of the first subs in
Brodsky's rotation this season, played
in every Groves game. He's also a can-
didate for a starting spot in 2007.
It was a memorable 2006 campaign
for the soccer Falcons. They went
19-3-2, won the Oakland Activities
Association Division II champion-
ship with a 9-1-2 mark, and captured
the first district title in Brodsky's five
years as coach with a 1-0 win over

Birmingham Brother Rice.
"This was the best group of guys
I've coached at Groves. They stayed
humble despite their accomplish-
ments," Brodsky said.
Cohen said the team's chemistry
played a big role in its success. "We
were like a family:' he said."We'hung
out together and had a lot of team din-
ners.
Brodsky now has a 67-26-13 career
mark at Groves with two OAA Division
II titles. He's also the girls' soccer
coach at Birmingham Marian High
School. The Mustangs have won two
state championships and four Catholic
League titles in Brodsky's five years at
the helm.

Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine Will Discuss

Palestine Peace Not Apartheid
By Jimmy Carter

PEACE NOT

APARTHEID

JIMMY CARTER

Many Jews are angry at the former President of
the United States because of his new book
about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Is this
hostility justified? Is the Carter thesis simply
naive or misguided? Or is it worthy of serious
consideration?

Supporting The Rabbis' Council

Sally Soberman, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Myron Milgrom
were among nearly 350 guests who attended the first fundraising din-
ner in 18 years of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit.
According to Rabbi Chaim Bergstein of Bais Chabad of Farmington
Hills, who serves as the council's treasurer, "The (Oct. 30) dinner was
a great success, a beautiful, beautiful affair that will definitely become
an annual event."
