One People from page 24

The Pension Protection Act
of 2006:

with one heritage, with one destiny
... of this one people, we can say at
this GA ... that a Jewish and just
cause will prevail;' Colter said.
Olmert's speech ended with a
similar sentiment.
"Our lives are interconnected;
he said. "Our fates are intertwined.
Israel and the Jewish Diaspora, as
you so correctly said, is one. Your
success is our success. Our success
is your success. We may be sepa-
rated by a vast ocean, but our hearts
beat together always:"
During a final session closed to
media, board members and dele-
gates brainstormed ways to improve
overall operations. Ideas included
more efficient sharing of best prac-
tices; a national database to track an
increasingly mobile population; the
creation of a mentoring system for
federation executives; having larger
federations "adopt" smaller ones to
nurture; enhanced development and
tracking of Birthright Israel partici-
pants as potential donors, according
to the release. Ideas will be reviewed
in January. -
Joseph Kanfer of Akron, Ohio,
was officially installed as board
chair, replacing Robert Goldberg of
Cleveland.

sile program that can reach every
capital of the world ... It's a global
program in the service of a mad
ideology."
He said the rise of power of the
Islamic extremists in Iran and
Afgahnistan in 1979 has been build-
ing toward this problem for years.
"I tried to explain this in the early
'90s',' he said. "I said that the West
doesn't understand the meaning of
Islam. And I said if they don't wake
up to it, then the next thing you'll see
is Muslims breaking down the World
Trade Center — page 125 in the
book I wrote:"
Netanyahu said during his time
as Israeli prime minister in the late
'90s, he pressured others to help
him to impact Iran's thrust toward a
nuclear missile program.
"It was hard to persuade people
toward the urgency of the problem','
he said.
And it's still difficult, he said,
because people see the problem of
militant Islam as a Jewish problem
