focuses on uniting
Jews.

fter the Israeli war with
Hezbollah this summer,
United Jewish Communities
(UJC) leaders were inspired to quickly
change the theme of their annual con-

between .Diaspora Jews and those in
Israel.
The new theme, with the tagline
"Together on the Front Line: One
People, One Destiny,' came from the
high response — mostly financial
— to the Israeli cry for help during the

war. The UJC is the umbrella organiza-
tion and center for Jewish philanthropy
for North American Federations.

the need for unity with Israelis and on
the impending threat of radical Islam.
Others offered local Federation leaders
a chance to explore ideas for making
their programs more successful.
Highlights among the speakers were
former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and Canadian Member of
Parliament Dr. Irwin Coder, who riled
up the crowd as they discussed 21st-
century challenges to the Jewish people
with great passion, pointing to Iran as a
major source of strife.
The final, and most anticipated, event
of the GA was a speech by Israeli Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert.
In the end, the message was the
same, again and again — the impor-
tance of the unity of the Jewish people
for their survival.
"We have to give expression to those
values and this people with one heart,
