marketing his talents. "I'm a multi-
threat," Young muses. "I write, produce,
sing, dance, quip and try to light up
any room or stage."
He has written several screenplays
and scripts for movies and TV shows,
but the one with the best chance for
success has the working title of Right
Angle, about the life of a local man,
Adam Niskar, 33, of Beverly Hills, who
became a quadriplegic eight years
ago after a diving accident in Walnut
Lake in West Bloomfield. Niskar kept
a diary of his plight, which included
surgeries and a four-month hospital
stay.
"I shared my journal with Mike
and Dan and Gary Gilbert, whom I've
known since our Southfield days, and
they're anxious to turn it into a film •
for the theater or TV,' says Niskar,
who is a director of mortgage bank-
ing at Rock Financial in Livonia. Dan
Gilbert is chairman of Rock, and Gary
Gilbert operates Camelot Pictures
in California, which made the film
Garden State and is developing other
movies.
"The story is a dark comedy of a
typical young man whose life was
changed by this terrible accident
and who then overcame adversity to
become successful in the business
world," Young explains. "We're now
shopping the script to a director and

hope to cast the film soon!'

Young also wrote an autobiographi-
cal TV sitcom script called Forever
Young, plus the theme song that was
produced by Warner Bros. and almost
made it to the ABC network, "but they
turned it down recently — at least
for this season," he says. He also has
written theme songs for the Detroit
Red Wings, including the popular
"Get Your Red On" a few seasons ago.
"I try to stay on top of everything I'm-
involved in."
Admiring such veteran comedians
as George Carlin, Billy Crystal and the
late Richard Pryor, Young has toured
with such current favorites as Bob
Saget, Wanda Sykes and D.L. Hughley
and has appeared on several cable TV
comedy shows. But for an extended
Thanksgiving holiday, he's returning
to his Detroit area roots.

"Mike Young's Young American
Comedy Tour" takes the stage 9
p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the
Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318
West Fourth St., in Royal Oak.

$20 and can be purchased at
