Berman Award Honoree

Sharon Alterman of Franklin,
director of Federation's Leonard
N. Simons Jewish Community
Archives, has been named the
recipient of the 2006 Mandell
and Madeleine Berman Award for
Outstanding Professional Service.
The award
recognizes
outstanding
contributions
of communal
profession-
als employed
by the Jewish
Federation of
Alterman
Metropolitan
Detroit, its agen-
cies and beneficiaries and other
local Jewish social service organi-
zations. Presentation of the award
is scheduled for the November
meeting of the combined boards
of Federation and United Jewish
Foundation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
As founding director of the
Leonard N. Simons Jewish
Community Archives, Alterman has
served the mission of preserving,
disseminating and celebrating the
Jewish community's history and
documents.
The collection occupies 3,000
linear feet and is preserved in the
Max M. Fisher Federation Building
in Bloomfield Township and in the
Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne
State University in Detroit.
