Old West, New Tales

Hear author and retired professor
Lawrence Berkove, a specialist in
19th- and 20th-century American
literature, discuss recently discov-
ered works of Old West authors
such as Mark Twain, Dan De Quille,
Sam Davis, Joe Goodman and Rollin
Daggett.

The past year has been very active for Berkove. In May, he
became president of the Mark Twain Circle of America and
published three books on the Sagebrush School, a move-
ment in 19th-century Nevada that helped develop well-known
authors, including Twain. In September, he helped edit a
three-volume edition of the short fiction of 19th-century
author Ambrose Bierce. This winter, he will publish a two-vol-
ume edition of memoirs of Nevada's mining boom.
