uring a recent trip to Israel
and Poland, the spirit of phi-
lanthropy struck Michael
Morse of Huntington Woods in a
life-changing fashion. Earlier this year,
he was unaffiliated and relatively unin-
volved in the Jewish community. But
after returning from the young leader-
ship trip, sponsored by Nancy and Jim
Grosfeld of Bloomfield Hills, he's now
an active participant and is among
a group of the biggest young-adult
contributors to Federation's Annual
Campaign.
"I saw where Federation dollars go
and became overwhelmed:' Morse said,
describing his dramatic turnaround. "I
think a lot of people don't realize how
important it is to have a strong Jewish
community here in Detroit. I'm brand
new at this, but I'm passionate and I'm
learning."
Morse shared his newfound pas-
sion with a group of about 100 young
professionals as a co-chair of the third
annual Heritage event sponsored by
the Young Adult Division of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Phillip and Lauren Fisher, the
son and daughter-in-law of the late
philanthropist and community leader
Max Fisher, opened their Bloomfield
Hills home for the event for the third
straight year.
The evening of hors d'oeuvres,
cocktails and socializing was held to
thank members of the under-40 crowd
who've given an individual Campaign

gift of $3,000 or more, or a family gift
of $5,000 or more. So far this year, the
group has contributed $480,000 to
the Federation's 2007 Campaign, an
increase of more than $100,000 from
last year.
"I think it's a real tribute to the
Detroit Jewish community that our
younger generation is working so
hard to try to follow in the footsteps
of those that came before them:' said
David Gorosh of Birmingham, one
of the Campaign co-chairs.
"We're all here because we have
this common philanthropic passion;'
Phillip Fisher told the crowd. "We all
have these values that run through our
blood."
Federation's President Peter Alter
and CEO Robert Aronson, both of
Bloomfield Hills, also attended the Oct.
18 event. "If Max Fisher could stand
here tonight, he would be so proud:'
Aronson said, addressing Lauren and
Phillip Fisher. "Your family is showing
support for the next generation." •
Spotted in the crowd, helping carry
on the community's heritage of giv-
ing, were: Event co-chairs Molly
and Aaron Chernow and Debbie
and Robb Lippitt, all of Bloomfield
Hills; and Lee Hurwitz and Harriet
Morse, both of Huntington Woods;
Campaign co-chair Lorne Gold and
YAD president Jennifer Friedman,
both of Huntington Woods; Andrea
and Dale Beavers of Farmington
Hills; Jennifer and Paul Silverman
of Franklin; and Sheri Wagner,
Randy Wertheimer, and Emily and
Jeff Camiener, all of Birmingham. ❑
