The basic plan consists of six of the center's cookies — including chocolate, coconut and oatmeal raisin — per day plus a sensible dinner of six ounces of chicken, turkey or seafood plus veg- etables. A fan of the diet, Huntington Woods resident Nick Philko, lost 40 pounds in about three months and maintains his weight loss on a modified Cookie Diet. "The first two weeks are tough — I felt a little sluggish. But then I was consistently full and the diet was easy to main- tain," he says, adding that the center's medical and administrative staff is very supportive, regularly conducting physicals and evaluations, dispensing supplements and administering advice. Smart for Life has two Michigan locations: one in Rochester Hills and a newly opened center on Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield (866-821- 8446; togetthin.com). The Somerset Collection in Troy is introducing a slew of new tenants. The north side is now home to Anne Klein and Cache Luxe, while Stuart Weitzman and Barneys CO-OP recently opened on the south side. Despite its reputation for sophisticated career basics, Anne Klein does not carry any clothing but offers accessories and a limited selec- tion of footwear, while Cache Luxe sells special occasion and evening apparel at a higher price point than its parent store, Cache. Also on the high-end side, Stuart Weitzman features an extensive collection of evening, casual and bridal footwear in four widths and in sizes four to 12. Barneys CO-OP is, in its own words, "the wayward offspring of Barneys New York." With designer department store Barneys the elder being the benchmark of sophisticated but decidedly unstuffy style — and, in generations past, a rite of passage for New York boys who came for their bar mitzvah suit — the CO-OP offers edgy apparel and accessories for both men and women. Barneys CO-OP shelves a great selection of tops, bottoms, dresses, jackets, jewelry and handbags for women, including collections from Clu, Diane von Furstenberg, Ella Moss, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Vince. In addition, men can stock up on casual and sportswear from designers such as Barking Irons, Original Penguin and Theory. Accessories, footwear and denim also are available for both sexes from designers including NDC, Nooka, Chip & Pepper, Earnest Sewn, James and Rogan. Although its upscale par- ent store, Barneys, closed its doors at Somerset several years back, Barneys CO-OP hopes to succeed with its appeal to a younger demographic. Also look out for Lush, a British bath and cosmetics store with mixed-on-site soaps and scents (opening later this month) and Lilly Pulitzer (opening in March). Call the Somerset Collection for more information (248-643-6460). • Across town at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, newer stores include Aldo Accessories and the Swedish powerhouse H&M, which currently features a Madonna- inspired tracksuit. Also look out for PINK by Victoria's Secret, a playful col- lection of sleepwear and sweats designed for the college crowd, coming soon. The mall's expansion project — which will include a renovated Macy's, a new Nordstrom and an additional 90,000 square feet of new store space — is expected to be complete by fall 2007. Call Twelve Oaks Mall for more infor- mation (248-348-9400). • Appealing to the baby boomer generation and a more classsic crowd, Acorn recently opened its doors on the Boardwalk in West Bloomfield. Carrying conservative casual wear and accessories including hand- bags, belts, scarves and jewelry priced between $19.99 and 5149.99, Acorn also promotes a discount program for fre- quent shoppers (248-737-5890). ❑ Top: Eat cookies, lose weight on the Cookie Diet.
