Torah Blessings Taught
On Sunday, Nov. 5, Keren Alpert,
director of education, will present
an hourlong session titled "Aliyah-
phobia or Help, I Have to Bless the
Torah" at Temple Beth EL
The 10:30 a.m. session will teach
participants to be confident at any
Torah service. They will learn the
blessings, rehearse on the bimah
and receive copies of the blessings
in Hebrew and English plus a trans-
literation and a CD.

Dr. Zieva Konvisser will be the
featured scholar-in-residence at
Kabbalat Shabbat services Friday,
Nov. 10, and at a lunch and learn
following services Saturday, Nov. 11,
at Congregation Beth Shalom.
Konvisser has devoted years of
research on the positive psychologi-
cal change and experience dealing
with highly challenging life circum-
stances. Her focus of the weekend
will be on survivors of terrorist
attacks on Israel.

A free five-session Hebrew read-
ing crash course will be held in
Birmingham at 7:30 p.m. Monday
nights starting Nov. 6.
