ticky fingers were a sign of a sweet
afternoon at the Franklin Cider Mill,
where dozens of young families
gathered for a special Sukkot celebration.
About 180 people enjoyed cider and donuts,
shook the lulav, held the etrog and learned
more about the harvest festival of Sukkot
during a special program on Oct. 8. sponsored
by the Imagine group of Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield.
"Everyone loves the cider mill and every-
one knows fall is the time for the cider mill:'
said Temple Israel Rabbi Jennifer Tisdale
of Commerce Township, who led the pro-
gram. "We also want fall to remind people of
Sukkot."
The second annual cider mill event
drew twice as large a crowd as last year,
signaling the grow-
ing popularity of the
Imagine program.
Rachel Sherman of
Bloomfield Township
took part with her twin
daughters, Sara and
Eden, 4, and son Ari, 5.
"I love Sukkot,"
.
Sherman said. "It's
pretty, it's fall, and it's a
great holiday for kids.
They get to eat outside
in their jackets and, for them, being in the
sukkah is like being out in a tent:'
Participants rounded out the afternoon
by singing songs together and everyone was
given tulip bulbs to plant at home.
•
"When the flowers come up, we hope it will
remind them each year of this Sukkot cel-
ebration,"•abbi Tisdale said. "We gave them
something that grows, to remind everyone
that we're always growing and we should
grow together."
Spotted in the cider mill crowd were:
Alaina and Sandy Kronenberg and
daughter Ashley, Rachel and Ron Radner
and daughter Hannah, and Melissa and
Marty Hortick and son Max, all of West
Bloomfield; Risa VanDer Aue and daughter
All of Commerce Township; and Amy and
Marc Wander with their children, Jack,
Sam and Hattie of Farmington Hills. I I
