Miller, Israeli teen "ambassa-
dors" for the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, have been
campers and counselors at Camp
Tamarack in Ortonville. They are
active volunteers in Israel and have
participated in international stu-
dent programs.
This Jewish Heritage Night is
targeted at Jewish high school stu-
dents who have visited Israel or are
considering a summer trip there.

Chorale Honors Director
Zamir Chorale of Metropolitan
Detroit, an independent commu-
nity group devoted to performing
Jewish choral music and foster-
ing its appreciation, will honor its
outgoing music director Benjamin
Cohen on 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24,
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in Southfield. A gift in apprecia-
tion of his 13 years of direction
will be presented by Zamir Board
President Arthur Sugarman.
The public event is free of
charge.
Cohen, who led the group since
its inception in 1994, is a profes-
sionally trained and recognized
choral conductor, composer, theater
director and music teacher.
As ZCMD begins its 2006-2007
season, it will do- so under the
leadership of David Appelman. He
received a baccalaureate degree
in jazz studies from Indiana
University and master's degrees
in Jewish communal service from
Hebrew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion and in social
work from the University of
Southern California.
