President Peter Alter said, "This has been a year that's tested our strength and our com- mitment. And we have come through as a community: united and strong." He cited among accom- plishments Federation's Israel Emergency Fund, which com- mitted $15 million as an initial goal to help meet urgent needs in Michigan Jewry's Partnership 2000 region in the Central Galilee and throughout Israel. Before the first dollar was collected, he added, $1 million went directly to the partnership region to repair bomb shelters, care for the most vulnerable residents and move kids to the safety of summer camps in cen- tral Israel.
