omy and quality of life. We need
immigration reform that strikes the
proper balance between security,
fairness and preserving Michigan
jobs. In the end, I did not support
recent Senate legislation because it
failed to strike this balance.
I have supported fencing along
the southern border, using National
Guard troops to supplement our
border control efforts, and mea-
sures to strengthen security at
our northern borders including
increasing the number of border
patrol agents. E

In the lexicon of the Arab world,
"Israeli invasion" is the term
for Israeli self-defense, and
"resistance" is the term for ter-
rorism. Israelis used to say that
the Lebanese would be one of
the first nations to sign a peace
treaty with Israel. Unfortunately,
the unchecked hostile actions
of the Palestinians and the
Hezbollah in Lebanon have kept
tensions with Israel high and
peace overtures almost non-
existent.
