Recent polls show that when it comes to supporting Israel, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Republicans are more likely to support Israel. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll conducted in July of 2006 found that Republicans are much more likely to support Israel than Democrats. An over- whelming 84% of Republicans said they support Israel, while only 43% of Democrats do. Even more concerning is that more Democrats than ever are openly backing neutrality over alliance with Israel. A Los Angeles/Bloomberg poll conducted in July showed that only 39% of Democrats support a U.S. alliance with Israel. By contrast, 64% of Republicans support maintaining strong ties with Israel. Which of the following statements comes closer to your view: "The United States should continue to align itself with Israel" or "The United States should adopt a more neutral posture," or "The United States should side more with the Arab countries." In the Middle East situation, are your sympathies more often with Israel or more with the Arab nations? 100 80 60 Sympathize with Israel Align with Israel Republicans 84% Democrats 43% Republicans 64% Democrats 39% 40 20 REPUBLICANS DEMOCRATS Source: NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll, 7/06 REPUBLICANS DEMOCRATS Source: Los Angeles/Bloomberg Poll, 7/06 The evidence is overwhelming.
