Bernadette Banky of Ann Arbor.
"One of the things I like about this
group is that it includes singles,
couples and kids. It's really nice
to get people together and mixed
and walking — it's just nice to be
outside and forget about whatever
else is going on in the world for a
little while," she said.
The group plans to hike through
different local parks and along
nature trails once a month. The
hikes are about two hours long
and are for people of all 'skill lev-
els. Participants are encouraged to
bring their own backpacks, water,
snacks and cameras.
The temple decided to form
the group as part of its Caring
Community Program, which con-
sists of groups for families, chil-
dren, the elderly and all ages in
between. There are also programs
that deal with spirituality, healing
and meditation.
"The mission of Jewish Hikers
of Michigan is to offer spiritual,
social and physical activities in
nature for the Jewish community:'
said Arlene Dietz of Ann Arbor,
who organized the group along
with hiker Eli Anvy, who grew up
near Tel Aviv.
"It's a great activity for the
body and mind:' Anvy added. "It's
a healthy way to start a Sunday
morning." 111

Parker Mill County Park is
located at 4650 Geddes Road
in Ann Arbor Township.
The group's next hike
will take place Sunday, Oct.
8, from 10 a.m. to noon at
Barton Park in Ann Arbor. The
park is located off the Huron
River Scenic Drive, across
from Bird Road and the Bird
Hill Park Sanctuary.
