Focus: Teen Leaders
The Jewish Federation of ,letropolitan
Detroit is seeking high school juniors
ready to take on exploring their Jewish
identity through the Diller Teen
Fellows Program.
Based on a successful model in
San Francisco, the Diller Teen Fellows
Program is a yearlong opportunity for
enrichment open to 20 students.
Through eight Sunday workshops,
three weekend retreats and a summer
seminar in Israel, Federation's Diller
Teen Fellows will hone personal lead-
ership skills, meet local activists and
participate in community service proj-
ects and Jewish community events.
The Diller program is funded by
the Helen Diller Family Foundation of
the San Francisco Jewish Community
Endowment Fund, with generous
support from the Detroit Federation's
Stephen H. Schulman Millennium
Fund. Each Fellow is awarded a $6,500
subsidy, which reduces the cost to
$1,800 per participant. Additional
financial aid is available.
Interested Jewish teens must submit
a written application, along with letters
of recommendation, to be considered
for a personal interview. To be eligible,
candidates must be in the 11th grade
and reside in Metro Detroit. The pro-
gram runs January to December 2007.
Deadline for „application is Nov.
3. Candidate interviews will be con-
ducted in November and December.
For further information or to receive
an application, go to www.thisisfedera-
tion.org/diller or call Jason Charnas at
(248) 642-1645 or email him at
scharnas@jfmd.org.

Forum For Voters

"Issues You Need to Know At The
Ballot Box" will be the focus of an
electoral forum 7-9 p.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 3, at Adat Shalom Synagogue in
Farmington Hills.
Sponsored by the Jewish Community
Council and the National Council of
Jewish Women Greater Detroit Section,
in partnership with a host of local
Jewish organizations, the forum will
discuss key ballot proposals.
Brian Dickerson, columnist for
the Detroit Free Press, will serve as
moderator. The program will explore
the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative,
which would amend the Michigan
Constitution to ban all state-spon-
sored affirmative action programs,
and the K-16 Proposal, which would
require annual funding increases
equal to inflation for public schools,
state-funded community colleges and
universities.

Best Wishes
