Riding The River

An annual river-rafting trip over the Labor Day weekend on the Upper
Youghiogheny River nearly Ohiopyle, Pa., once again kicked off the year
for the National Conference of Synagogue Youth Central East Region
that includes Michigan, Ohio and western Pennsylvania. More than 40
kids from Detroit went on the trip. Seen making their way downriver are
Dassie Fant of Cleveland, Elad Hillman of Southfield, Suzanne Gutman of
Cleveland, Marisa Gruber of Southfield (chapter president), Lauren Walsh
of Huntington Woods and Adam Sibsczner of Pittsburgh. For information

Debbie And Friends

More than 600 people overflowed the sanctuary and spilled into the
social hall of Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak Park on Sept. 17 for an
"unplugged" family concert by popular Jewish singer-Songwriter Debbie
Friedman, who was - thrilled by the response from the audience as they
joined in on many of her best-known songs. The entertainer is shown
here with many of the students present at the concert, which was given in
memory of former Gan Shalom Preschool director Barbara Katchke.

Quartet for a program of smaller chamber music. Han, who
with Emerson cellist and husband David Finckel serves as
artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln

world's most prestigious venues.
