Book Fair Contest
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's 55th annual
Book Fair will hold its opening night
event, featuring author and Nobel
Prize winner Elie Wiesel, 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Jewish Center
in West Bloomfield.
The cost of the event, chaired by Gail
Fisher and Amy Hammer, is $10 for
Center members, $12 for non-mem-
bers, $5 for seniors and students and
$15 at the door. Reservations are due
by Friday, Oct. 27.
In conjunction with the event, the
Center is sponsoring an essay contest
on "Why is Elie Wiesel's book Night
relevant today?" The contest is open to
all local high school students. Essays
are due by Friday, Sept. 29.
Essays should be 800 words or less,
typewritten and double-spaced. The
first place winner will receive $1,000.
Three runner-up winners will receive
$500 each. The top 10 essay writ-
ers will receive four complimentary
tickets to the Book Fair opening night
reception with Wiesel. All essay entries
should include the student's first and
last name, address, telephone number
and e-mail, name of school, school
address and phone number, student
year in high school, parents' names.
