DeVos has been to Israel three
times, most recently in January on
a trip sponsored by the American
Israel Education Foundation. He
was accompanied by local American
Israel Public Affairs Committee activ-
ist David Victor.
"I've enjoyed the opportunity to
visit and to learn:' DeVos said. "The
question of Israel and Israel's right
to exist is absolutely clear. It is not a
question."

Yad Ezra Honorees
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, Yad Ezra,
Michigan's only kosher food pantry,
will hold its 16th annual fundraiser
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield. This year's event, a stroll-
ing supper, will honor Ellen and Jim
Labes, dedicated Yad Ezra supporters
and active participants in our com-
munity.
Marilyn and Darryl Goldberg and
Joyce and George Blum, all good
friends of the Labes, will chair the
arrangements and fundraising for the
event. Yad Ezra Executive Committee
Members Ken Bernard and Allan
Sefton are dinner program journal
co-chairs.
Dinner and program journal rev-
enue, which accounts for a major
portion of Yad Ezra's annual bud-
get, is used to purchase nutritious
groceries for the
organization's client
families. Yad Ezra
currently provides
food, healthcare
items and household
cleaning supplies to
approximately 2,500
Ellen and Jim
individuals every
Labes
month.
Yad Ezra, an independent agency,
is supported by the generosity of the
metropolitan Detroit community.
This year, a dedicated corps of vol-
unteers and financial supporters will
enable the food pantry to distribute
more than 800,000 pounds of grocer-
ies to impoverished families.

he issued the following statement
through communications director
Jason Moon:
"For years, I've represented the
Michigan Democratic Party at
AAPAC's Dinner and Politics event
the same way I represented the
Democratic Party at events hosted
by the Jewish, African American and
Hispanic communities or any other
ethnic group in the Michigan com-
munity. The Michigan Democratic
Party condemns all forms of terror-
ism and we fully support a Middle
East Peace Process that guarantees
the territorial integrity, security and
political rights of the parties to the
negotiations."
Brewer did not respond to JN
efforts seeking clarification and
expansion of his statement.
