FRANK T. RATH, 89, of
West Bloomfield, died Sept. 6,
2006. He was born in Montreal,
Canada, and later moved to
Windsor. He attended Wayne
State University and gradu-
ated with a degree in chemical
engineering. Upon completion
of college, he enlisted in the
Royal Canadian Air Force, as a
navigator; and his squadron was
sent to England in 1941. He flew
18 missions over Germany and
was shot down, captured by the
Germans and spent two years
in a German POW camp. After
his escape, he was picked up by
the British forces and returned
to England in the spring of
1945. He married his fiancee, an
English girl, in Liverpool in May
of the same year. They returned
to Canada and later moved to
the United States.

Mr. Rath worked as a chemi-
cal engineer for the Detroit
Edison Company for 35 years
and retired in 1984.
He is survived by his beloved
wife, Betty (Axelrod) Rath; son,
Robin Rath of Warren; daugh-
ters and son-in-law, Judith and
Harvey Blavin of Bloomfield
Hills, Lisa (Rath) Polk of
Farmington Hills; grandchil-
dren, Jonathan Blavin, Fredric
Blavin, Charles Nater, Andrew
Nater, Tim Rath, Emily Rath
and Katie Rath; brother-in-law,
Joseph Katzman; survived by
many loving nieces, nephews,
other family members and
friends. He was the dear brother
of the late Carl Rath, the late
Ruth Katzman, the late Sam
Rath, the late Phyllis and the
late Paul Pomo and the late Celia
Rath.

Interment at the Adat Shalom
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to
Naamat USA or to a charity of

JOSEPHINE SNOOK, 79, of
West Bloomfield, died Sept. 2,
2006. She was born and raised in
London, England.
As a 15- year-old teen dur-
ing World War II, she worked as
a secretary in the heart of the
nightly London bombing raids,
often making her way to her office
through the fires and rubble of
the previous nights damage.
In the evenings she served as
a volunteer at the Rainbow Club
in London, a USO facility for
American servicemen stationed
in England, and received a cita-
tion from President Truman for

her efforts.
She immigrated to the U.S.A.
in 1954 with her family and
worked as an accountant and
CFO in her husband's business
for almost 30 years. She was
artistic, a watercolor painter, a
knitter, seamstress and designer.
Mrs. Snook is survived by
her husband of 56 years, Lewis;
daughters, Jacqueline and Carole.
Funeral arrangements were
private. Contributions may be
made to Beaumont Hospice,
Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy
Network or a charity of one's
choice.

Oak; brother and sister-in-law,
Louis and Joni Solomon of
Gainsville, Fla.; nieces and neph-
ews, Zachary, Zachary, Nicholas,
Natalie, Rachel and Rosalynn,
Jason (Albina) Yashinsky and
Neil (Lori) Yashinsky; great-
nieces and nephews, Emma,
Elian, Ariela and Rafael. She was
the beloved daughter of the late
Norman and the late Rosaline
Solomon; sister of the late
Edward Solomon.
Interment at Machpelah
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to a charity of one's choice.

BEATRICE ANN
SOLOMON, 54, of Royal Oak,
died Sept. 8, 2006.
She is survived by her sister
and brother-in-law, Deborah
and Richard Gibbs of Royal

SHIRLEY WEINHART, 80,
former Detroiter of Torrance,
Calif., died Aug. 14, 2006. She
moved to Torrance in 1993,
when she retired. She was a life
member of City of Hope and
B'nai B'rith, as well as serv-
ing on the board of directors
at Congregation Beth Torah in
Torrance.
Mrs. Weinhart is survived by
her daughter and son-in-law,
Herb and Jo Ann (Jo) Kahn,
of Torrance; grandchildren,
Matt Kahn of Seattle, Wash.,
Marc and Shannon Magid of EI
Segundo, Calif.; great-grandchil-
dren, Wendy, Jason and Shaun
Magid; sisters and brother-in-
law, Irene Bernstein of Boca
Ratan, Fla., Faye and Louis
Damraur of West Bloomfield;
brother and sister-in-law, Mel
and Naama Bluestein of Kibbutz
Ramat Yochanan in Israel;
brother-in-law, Max Freedman
of Toronto, Ontario, Canada;
many loving nieces, nephews,
great-nieces, great-nephews and
a great-great-niece. She was the
daughter of the late Harry and
the late Dorothy Bluestein; sister
of the late Sandra Freedman;
sister-in-law of the late Norman
Bernstein.
