Behind Bush

Thank you, Berl Falbaum, for
speaking in your Community View
to the dead-set Jewish Democrats
who insist on vilifying President
Bush and refuse to acknowledge
the importance of his support of
Israel ("The Case For George Bush','
Aug. 31, page 39).
It is about time that we Jews
wake up and realize that, yes,
American social issues are
important; but the existence and
well being of Israel should be a
top priority for us. If Israel falls
at the hands of Hezbollah and
the like, as Mr. Falbaum aptly
puts it," ... we will discover the
triviality of the social agenda
that the Jewish body politic so
values."

Bush A Friend
I want to commend Berl Falbaum
on his Community View ("The
Case For George Bush," Aug. 31,
page 39).
After reading a letter to the
editor supporting our "demo-
cratic process" with the ousting
of Joe Lieberman, a 'devoted Jew
and someone devoted to Israel,
I then read the article "Nothing
to Fear" (Aug. 31, page 27) about
the U.S. Campaign to End the
Israeli Occupation founded by
Josh Ruebner, an American-born
Israeli Jew. He was participating
in a University of Michigan-
Dearborn rally for the cause
of Palestinians, whose terror-
ist leaders still hold an Israeli
soldier and are still calling for
Israel's destruction.
After that, it was heartening
read Mr. Falbaum's commen-
tary — he truly gets it. While
President Bush may have his
faults, Israel has never had a bet-
ter friend than he is.

Israel's Worth
With fear and trepidation and
heavily forewarned by friends
and family, I visited Israel during
the recent outbreak of war.
My thoughts centered on

Helping Effect Change
The Editor's Letter "The Power Of
Docents" (Sept. 7, page 5) is won-
derful. As the docent educator,
the training is my responsibility.
The Holocaust Memorial Center
is more than a history lesson.
Our goal is to help young and old
realize what hatred and bigotry
can create.
Our goal is to help young and
old, look at their own corner of
the world and make it better.
Our goal is to encourage young
and old, to vote intelligently, to
treat all people with dignity and
respect. Our goal is to throw a
pebble in the water and have it
spread to the oceans.
I have been a docent since
1985. Other than when I taught
school in Detrokthere has been
no more rewarding effort in my
life. Our docents and survivor
speakers are amazing people
... anxious to learn, to share, to
change the world.

Touching Moments

It was great to read your Editor's
Letter on the docent speakers at
the Holocaust Memorial Center in
Farmington Hills ("The Power of
Docents',' Sept. 7, page 5). I know
the impression they make on the
young people who visit as well as
the adults who accompany them
or who come without youngsters
because I talk to thein as a survi-
vor speaker after they have been
through the center,
It is touching and heartwarming
to see them afterwards when they
come up to me and shake hands
and sometimes hug me. I feel we
are "getting the message through:'

Fund should have been reported

Chancellor Daniel Little and
his administration have been
effective in developing an open,

another perspective from inside
the university community. While
the school itself promoted a non-

students, the problem is that the
Arab-American student groups
have sponsored several activities
over the years that are merely a
reflection of the international
program of anti-Israel propa-
ganda that many JN readers are
familiar with by accessing other
