MILTON "MICKEY" BATES,
88, of Southfield, died Aug. 22, 2006.
A partner with Sam Eisenberg in
Woodward-Willis
Builders, a home
improvement com-
pany, Mr. Bates was
an Air Force vet-
eran of World War
II. He was active
with ACLU, Jewish
Parents Institute,
Bates
Workmen's Circle,
NAACP and
he participated with the Dorothy
and Peter Brown Center at Jewish
Vocational Services.
Mr. Bates is survived by his wife,
Marion Bates of Southfield; daugh-
ters and a son-in-law, Lynda Paull of
Bronx, N.Y., Ellen Bates-Brackett and
Tom Brackett of Huntington Woods;
son and his partner, Daniel Bates
and Amy Weinstein of Bloomfield
Township; grandchildren, Caleb Paull
and Amy Halbrook, Tamar Paull,
Jordan Brackett and his fiancee, Amy
Jacobs, Frannie Shepherd-Bates and
Jesse Shepherd-Bates; great- grand-
son, Henry Paull. He was the beloved
brother of the late Anne Linn, the
late Edith Linderman, the late Bess
Sniderman and the late Esther Levy.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be

HERSHEY BINDER, 66, of Los
Angeles, died Aug. 15, 2006. He attend-
ed the University of Michigan and
received a business degree from the
University of California Los Angeles.
He was very involved with the Jewish
community.
Mr. Binder is survived by his wife,
Farla; sons and daughter-in-law,
David of New York City, Michael and
Simone of Hermosa Beach, Calif.;
daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann
and Matt Rossiter of Oakland, Calif.;
sisters and brother-in-law, Etta Zivian
of Bingham Farms, Anna and Miles
Brasch of Bloomfield Hills; many
nephews and nieces. He was the son
of the late David and the late Polly
Binder; brother of the late Clara
Kurtzman.

Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit Israel Emergency Fund.

SAM BRAVERMAN, 87, of West
Bloomfield, died Aug. 21, 2006. A
licensed realtor and property owner
for the past 30 years, Mr. Braverman
was previously owner of Epstein
Baking Company in Detroit. After
graduating Detroit Central High
School, he went to work building
bombers at Ford Motor Company's
Willow Run Plant during World War

II while at the same time working as a
butcher in his father Joe Braverman's
butcher shop on Dexter. After his
father-in-law Sam Posner's death in
1953, Mr. Braverman, along with his
then wife Erma, owned and oper-
ated Epstein Baking Company on
Dexter until 1973, servicing retail and
wholesale accounts in Metropolitan
Detroit and Windsor. He then went
into owning properties in Arizona
and Michigan. Mr. Braverman was a
lifelong member of B'nai B'rith. He
gathered and distributed supplies to
Jewish war veterans at area Veterans'
Administration facilities.
Mr. Braverman is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Barbara
and Sheldon Larky of Oak Park; son
and daughter-in-law, Dr. David and
Jane Braverman of Overland Park,
Kan.; stepson and daughter-in-law,
Sheldon and Beverly Scharg of West
Bloomfield; stepson, Dr. Larry Scharg
of California; stepdaughter, Linda
Scharg of San Francisco; grand-
children, Adam Larky and Lorie
Larky-Savin, Dr. Howard and Liza
Larky, Rebecca and Erica Braverman,
Jordan, Brett, Gabe, and Ian Scharg;
great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and
Abigail Larky-Savin and Jaclyn Larky;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris
and Arlene Bravell, Ted and Sylvia
Braverman, Harry Braverman, Clara
Braverman. He was the beloved hus-
band of the late Erma Braverman and
the late Helen Braverman; brother of
the late Harold Braverman.
Interment at Clover Hill Cemetery.

ARTHUR KOLIN, 80, of West

Bloomfield, died Aug. 25, 2006. A
pharmacist, Mr. Kolin owned Ark
Drugs and several clinic stores located
in medical facilities. He was a tail
