Cameron attends West Hills Middle
School in Bloomfield Hills. His most
meaningful mitzvah project was pre-
paring and delivering gift packages to
children who are ill and in the pediatric
intensive care unit at Beaumont Hospital.

Alexander Jacob
Shenkman
(Avraham Yaacov)
will be called to the
Torah as a bar mitz-
vah on Saturday, Sept.
2, at Congregation
Shenkman
Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. Participating in the
ceremony will be his proud parents,
Dov and Judith Shenkman, and
brother Jonathan. His grandparents
are Clarence and Harriet Salzberg of
Birmingham and Michael Shenkman of
Hadera, Israel. He is also the grandson
of the late Feiga Shenkman.
Alex attends Central School in
Glencoe, Ill. He celebrated his bar mitz-
vah in June in Israel at the Davidson
Archaeological Center in Jerusalem.
His mitzvah projects included weekly
reading sessions with a younger "book
buddy" to assist with reading skills.

will be called to the

vah on Saturday, Sept.
2, at Congregation

Southfield. He is
the son of Liz and
Silver
Kenneth Silver and
brother of Shelby and Annie. Joe is
the grandson of Irma and Dr. George
Mogill, Dr. Kay Campbell, Dr. Donald
Silver, Sam Davis and the late Judge
Sandra Silver.
Joe attends Norup Middle School in
Oak Park. He is an active participant
with the Friends At Home Program
and Sports Night of the Friendship
Circle in West Bloomfield.

as a bar mitzvah,
at Temple Israel,
Saturday, Sept. 2. He

is the brother of Ryan
and Lindsay. Sharing
in Jacob's special day will be his grand-
parents Patricia and Gerald Katchman
and Arlene and Sheldon Singer.
Attending Orchard Lake Middle
School, Jacob felt it was especially
meaningful to help with a fundraiser
for the Diabetes Association.

Helman
is the son of Karen
Smith and Marcus
Helman and the older brother of
Bailey. Proud grandparents are Shirley
and Earl Smith of Atlanta, Ga., and
Janet and Robert Helman of Chicago.
Benjamin is an eighth-grade stu-
dent at Norup School in Oak Park. For
his mitzvah project, he packaged and
distributed food at Yad Ezra in Berkley.

Rachel Nichole Sweet will celebrate
her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel
Saturday, Sept. 2, as
she is called to the
bimah to read from
the Torah. Her proud
parents are Remedios
and Benjamin Sweet.
She is the sister of
Jeremy, Amanda and
Isaac and the grand-
child of Macaria
and Salvador Manlangit and Shirley
Sweet. She is also the grandchild of the
late Richard Sweet. Her excited great-
grandmother is Mary Cantor.
Rachel attends Walnut Creek Middle
School in West Bloomfield. She felt it
was meaningful to work with the Cat
Connection, helping to care for and
find homes for pets.

ful mitzvah project was donating sup-
port to the Jewish Foundation for the
Righteous, an organization that helps
sustain Christians who risked their lives
sheltering and otherwise aiding Jews
during the Holocaust.
