NAHB Remodeling Division
statistics show the addition
of an entire second floor to
a home now costs between
$400,00-$500,000; a new
bedroom can cost $20,000,
and a new kitchen, depending
on the appliances, can range
between $10,000-$85,000.
Lapides confirms that
remodeling work has picked
up in the past few years
because of the buyers'
market in real estate sales,
but the Midwest remains
the "softest market" in the
nation.
American homeowners
spent $215 billion on remod
eling work in 2005, and the
NAHB Remodeling Division
predicts a spurt to $238 bil-
lion this year.
