Lee Green, director of CAMERAS National Letter-Writing Group, will lead a two-hour workshop. She's also creator of the pro-Israel activism Web site, www.iloveisrael.org. The first workshop will be 10 a.m.- noon with a light brunch. There is a $10 charge; space is limited. The second program, Letter Writing 101, begins at 1 p.m. CAMERA (www.camera.org ) is a news-media watchdog organization working to promote more accurate, balanced and complete coverage of the Middle East. Based in Boston, it mon- itors and aggressively responds to dis- torted news accounts about Israel and holds news organizations accountable for setting the record straight. "The Detroit pro-Israel community is quite active and savvy in promoting fair and factual reporting about Israel: Green said. "However, the unique chal- lenges of the demographics in Metro Detroit require that they take their skills to the next level. The level of fairness and account- ability of a nation's press is directly related to how involved the public and media watchdogs are on insist- ing upon fair and factual reporting:' she added. "Please keep this in mind whenever you are pondering whether you should spend a half hour to pro- mote fair reporting about Israel to your local editor or to a national com- mentator The Benard L. Maas Foundation is underwriting the workshop. Advance registration is required. Contact StandWithUs-Michigan, (248) 432-1384 or swumichigan@ standwithus.
