Shul bash and open house will be

and entertainment provided by Joe
Cornell.
A car will be raffled off at 5:30
p.m. Raffle tickets will be available
for purchase at the event for $100

Rabbi Daniel `-Volpe of
Congregation Beth Shalom will
lead the community-wide Selichot
at Beth Shalom on Saturday, Sept.
16 at 9 p.m.
The public is invited to a dis-
cussion on the topic "How Good
and Pleasant It Is When Brothers
and Sisters Sit Together!' The talk
will explore the role of the High
Holidays in the modern world.
Then, the High Holidays will begin
with the davening of Selichot.

Shir Tikvah Sisterhood
Rabbi Aaron Starr will kick
off Congregation Shir Tikvah
Sisterhood's 2006-2007 program year
with a talk about the Jewish High
Holidays on Thursday, Sep. 14, at the
synagogue. Rabbi Starr will speak on
"A Window to the Soul: Poetry and
Prose of the High Holidays!"
The meeting will begin with
dinner at 6:45 p.m. followed by the
rabbi's talk at 7:30 p.m.
Dinner reservations are due no
later than Sept 7. Everyone is wel-
come. There is a $5 charge for those
who are not sisterhood members.
Temple Hosts Forum
The Birmingham Temple will
present a special forum, "War in
Gaza and Lebanon Has Changed
Everything," Monday, Aug. 28,
at 8 p.m. Rabbi Sherwin Wine,
the temple's founding rabbi, will
discuss Israel, Syria and Iran and
explore what may happen next in
the Middle East.
The forum is open to the public.
There is an $8 charge for individuals
who are not temple members. For
