A meaningful way to celebrate a
holiday and to show solidarity with
the people of Israel was the senti-
ment at Congregation Beth Shalom
in Oak Park, which imported 30
dozen roses from Israel and gave
them out at Shabbat services
Saturday, Aug. 5.
The occasion was Tu b'Av (15th
of Av), an ancient holiday from
the Second Temple period that has
been revived in modern Israel.
Originally a time when single
women went out to the fields to be
chosen as brides, Tu b'Av is now
known as the "Jewish holiday of
love?' It is a day to send flowers to
loved ones and for weddings.
