on a Mission" in just eight short days.
The event raised more than $270,000
to move families out of northern •
Israel and away from the danger of
Hezbollah missile strikes.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of
Tam O'Shanter and what we've been
able to do here tonight," said Mark
Fenton of West Bloomfield. "I almost
want to cry because of the turnout and
how good it makes me feel."
Fenton organized the event along
with his wife, Sheila, and Andy and
Steve Migdal of Bloomfield Hills,
Helen and Charlie Kaye of West
Bloomfield, Larry Miller of Bloomfield
Hills, Steve Weiss of West Bloomfield
and staff members from the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Guests included their family, friends
and fellow club members.
"We couldn't stand it anymore
— we couldn't sit back and let time go
by," said Andy Migdal.
Israel is our salvation; they're our
family," explained Charlie Kaye. "It
was very important to us as a Jewish
country club that we took a leadership
position."
"In one week, the members of Tarn
O'Shanter have shown incredible soli-
darity," added Millen
"When times are really challeng-
ing, especially when it deals with the
people of Israel, we come together,"
said Tam president Harry Lebovitz of
Farmington Hills.
Participants had dinner outside
overlooking the golf course, then
assembled inside to hear several
powerful speakers. In addition to the
campers, another Israeli, Adi Broza, 23,
of Haifa brought her chilling experi-
ences to life before the crowd. She
arrived in Michigan only a few hours
before the meeting for a visit with Lisa
and Mark Menuck and Jill and Craig
Menuck of Birmingham-.
"When you first hear the sirens,
your body is shaking all over," Broza
told the group. "You run down to the
shelter and you're counting 'one, two,
three: then you hear the rockets falling
all over. That's the thing I will remem-
ber the most."
"Reach into your pockets and buy
some time," said a teary-eyed Dan
Kahn of Bloomfield Hills. The Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit benefactor— and donor along
with his late wife, Betty, of a school
building in Netanya — urged Tam
attendees to fill out pledge cards and
make donations.
The cards were collected by par-
ticipants of Federation's Teen Mission
2006 who recently returned home
from their Israel trip early because
of the conflict. Organizers said all of
the money raised will be funneled
through Federation's Israel Emergency
Campaign and go directly to Israel in a
matter of days.
"Our family is definitely in pain of
historical proportions:' said Andrew
Echt of Birmingham, Federation's chief
financial resource development officer.
"When your own family is in need,
who underneath the sun wouldn't do
something to help?" Li
