Shelter to house approximately 30 homeless individuals. SOS was formed in 1985 by a local task force of the religious community, social service agencies and indi- viduals as the first rotating shelter in Michigan. For seven nights each participating congregation hosts men, women and children in need of shelter. All clients must be working to improve their situations and must sign guest contracts agreeing to a long list of rules. All are drug- and alcohol-free. Through the efforts of the syn- agogue's Social Action Committee, volunteers are recruited to oversee reg- istration, food preparation, transporta- tion, laundry, hospitality, overnight arrangements and more. Chairing this year's Housing the Homeless Week at Adat Shalom are Celia Lubetsky and Laurie Leeb.
