Testimonial:

"Royal Catering presented us with an assortment of mouth-
watering menu selections to choose from. Close attention was paid to every
detail involved with home catering and our specific needs for a kosher
family and friends' pre-wedding party).
Jeff and the Royal Catering staff were professional and stress-free to work
with. We were so pleased with the success of our party - we hired him to do
one two weeks later."

Mixed Bag
The klezmer band Beyond the Pale
infuses klezmer sounds into other
musical styles — even pieces by
Mozart. The group is ready to show-
case its original music and adapta-
tions Friday-Sunday, Aug. 11-13, dur-
ing the free Great Lakes Folk Festival.
The six musicians, appearing once
each day of the event, will include
the Mozart segments commissioned
by Canadian radio to commemorate
the 250th anniversary of the classic
composer's birth. That part of their
performance will be balanced out
with reggae, funk, bluegrass and jazz,
also mixed with klezmer.
The band's interest in a mix fits in
with the idea of mix in the festival,
which features all kinds of music,
foods, crafts, artists and activities,
including. Jewish mah jongg players
demonstrating their skills.
"We'll be doing repertoire from our
two CDs, most recently Consensus:'
says Eric Stein, 33, who plays mando-
lin and launched the group in 1998.
"We'll also do some straight-ahead
klezmer and Romanian and Balkan
folkdance music."
The performers, based in Canada,
include Martin van de Ven on clarinet,
Milos Popovic and Aleksandar Gajic
on violin, Bogdan Djukic on violin
and percussions and Bret Higgins on
bass.
"Our sound has evolved greatly,"
Stein says. "We compose more and
arrange more as a group. Our goal is
to equal more than the sum of our
parts."
Consensus, at the center of the con
cert, won as Best Instrumental CD at
