RED HOT

T

he car jumps out at you — that oh-so-familiar shape in spicy, flashy red.
Sure, the Jaguar comes in plenty of colors, but on a beautiful day in
the neighborhood, driving a 2007 XK series in "salsa" is a perfect match.
A simple push of the button, and the car roars to life.
Another button drops the top in 17 seconds.
The aluminum body shell makes the car light enough, at 3,759 lbs., to
make the 300-horsepower, 4.2-liter V8 engine and 310 lb.-ft. of torque at
4100 rpm downright explosive. The six-speed automatic transmission comes
with sequential shift steering wheel-mounted paddles if you want to play
Formula One race car driver. And this Jaguar goes from zero to 60 in 6.3
seconds, to a top speed of 155 mph.
With a base price of $80,835, this hot number costs $89,800 and includes
20-inch wheels, heated steering wheel, leather instrument panel and 16-way
driver and passenger seats. The XK gets 18 mpg in the city and 27 on the
highway.
Hot car, hot color — I'm glad I found some chips.
Hasta la vista, baby. ❑

A special thanks to Jaguar of Troy for allowing Cool Runnings to tool around in
an XK. Past Cool Runnings reviews can be found at JNonline.us.
