School Parking (-0 B'nai Israel Green School Keter Torah Shir Shalom i Springwater Ln upporters of Israel are urged to take to the streets on Sunday, Aug. 6, to show solidarity with the State of Israel as it fights Hezbollah, Hamas and an increasingly heated public relations battle. A two-mile Israel Solidarity Walk will begin and end at Temple Shir Shalom at the southeast corner of Walnut Lake and Orchard Lake roads in West Bloomfield. At 1 p.m., participants will head south to Orchard Mall at Maple Road before walking back to the temple. Mark Segel, of West Bloomfield is orga- nizing the event in a grassroots effort to show visible support of Israel and to call Lone Pine Rd Orc ha rd Lk Rd Don Cohen Special to the Jewish News for the release of kidnapped Israeli soldiers Gilad Shalit, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Segel also brought the community together in May for Israel Independence Day, organizing a walk in West Bloomfield on a different route. Some 400 marchers responded last time and numerous com- munity groups lent their support. He looks for a greater turnout Sunday. Segel attended the July 19 Israel Solidarity Rally at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield holding a large Israeli flag and was pleased to see thousands rally to Israel's defense. But, he says, the commu- nity needs to show support regularly "I don't think there can be enough public relations on behalf of Israel;' Segel says. "There is so much negative propaganda against us that we need to present Israel in a positive light all the time. I don't think you can ever do enough. Israel is on the frontline in a war for all of us as Jews and Americans." Segel is not deterred by the heat, nor by the attack on the Jewish Federation in Seattle and doesn't think such things will prevent many people from taking part.
