A

July 20 communitywide
prayer service brought
"a wide cross section of
people together for the purpose
of praying for God to protect the
Jewish people in Israel," said Rabbi
Elimelech Silberberg of Sara Tugman
Bais Chabad Torah Center in West
Bloomfield.
Sponsored by the Council of
Orthodox Rabbis, of which Rabbi
Silberberg is a member, the service at
Dovid Ben Nuchim in Oak Park gath-
ered 400-500 individuals from many
area synagogues with area rabbis
leading individual psalms.
"Even after the service, we urge
people to keep saying psalms," the
rabbi said. "We recognize our help
may come from the Israeli army, but
also we must understand that without
divine intervention we can't hope
for victory. And that comes from the
psalms we say and from the good
deeds we do, especially the ones we do
that facilitate love between people."
