TEEN MISSION TO ISRAEL

Teens'
connection
to Israel
forged by
shortened
.mission.

By the time you read this, the 214 local teens on
Federation's Teen Mission 2006 should be home safe
and sound, with amazing stories to tell.

We do know their last days in Israel were bittersweet.
They were incredibly sad to leave the country they'd
learned to love. We also know they gained empathy
firsthand for the Israeli teens from Federation's
Partnership 2000 region in the Central Galilee who
must stay and endure. And we know they had a
marvelous experience cut way too short.

We also know they were ready to come home, away
from the unaccustomed violence usually seen on
television screens.

But they left part of themselves in our Jewish
homeland, an inescapable tie that surely will draw
them back again.

— Keri Guten Cohen, story development editor

Jennifer Schanes and Ilana Stern with West Bloomfield residents Sloane Wolf,

Josh Forman and Brad Weiss in a quiet moment in Jerusalem.
