bat mitzvah in typical fash-
ion at Temple Shir Shalom
this February. Friends and family
— including her parents Berton
and Renee, her sisters Sarah, 16,
and Kayla, 9 — were there:So was
the spirit of Ryvka Gronovski, a 4-
year-old girl who perished in the
Holocaust.
May became one of about 2,600
kids involved from 100 congrega-
tions in the United States, Israel and
Canada to take part in "Remember
Us: the B'nai Mitzvah Project:' a
B'nai B'rith International program
that links bar and bat mitzvah stu-
dents to the Holocaust in a very per-
sonal way.
May was interviewed on Sirius sat-
ellite radio about the project on B'nai
B'rith's Studio J program.

remember the kids who died in the
Holocaust after there aren't any sur-
vivors left. So many people died that
it is impossible to remember every-
one. It takes on more meaning when
you remember one specific person.
"My Hillel class went to the
Holocaust Museum in Washington,
D.C., right after my bat mitzvah, and
I felt like I was looking at things that
happened to Ryvka."

What made you decide to
twin your Bat Mitzvah with
a Holocaust victim?
"I was worried that people wouldn't

How did they pick you to
interview?
"I don't know. My dad got a call
from Janet Rathner from B'nai Brith

How many other students
from Hillel have signed up
to twin?
"I don't know of any others, but I
hope kids will do it in the future."

How did you pick the name
of the child?
"I let Remember Us pick for me. I
wanted a child from Russia because
my parents adopted my youngest
sister from there three years ago, and
my family was from Russia origi-
nally."
